Individual Faculty Research Award


Award details; The Dolores Huerta Research Center for the Americas (Huerta Center) is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of Individual Faculty Research Awards up to $1,500. These grants are intended to support high-quality research in the areas of interest to the RCA including Chicanx, Latinx, and Latin American, migration, cross-border/hemispheric, and human rights studies.

Recipients are expected to acknowledge the Huerta Center’s support in any publications related to the sponsored research and to share their findings in a public forum convened by the Huerta Center, such as the Huerta Center’s Open Forum or Research Report publication series or a public event. Additionally, they must submit a report by mid-June to conclude the fiscal year.

How to apply: Please submit in the form below:

  1. Narrative description of the research project (not to exceed 3 double-spaced pages)
  2. Curriculum Vita, two pages max.
  3. An itemized research budget, itemized and justified, not to exceed $1500.

Applications closed. Next cycle begins October 2024.

Software support

The Huerta Center is pleased to announce the sponsorship of a very limited number of research software licenses for Huerta Center-affiliated faculty only. This application is only for research software licenses, and no other research or travel expenses are included. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and you should anticipate a 2-3 week turnaround. Recipients are expected to acknowledge the Huerta Center’s support in any publications related to this sponsorship. Please contact the Huerta Center Director at huerta@ucsc.edu to apply.

Postdoctoral Scholar Research Fund

In addition to the graduate student and faculty research awards, the Huerta Center maintains a limited fund to support the research of postdoctoral scholars in the areas of interest to the Center including Chicanx, Latinx, Latin American, migration, cross-border/hemispheric, and human rights studies. Funds can be used for domestic and international travel, for the purpose of archival research and data collection, and for research supplies and services.

To apply, postdoctoral scholars should submit a one-page application letter describing the project and an itemized budget to the Huerta Center Director at huerta@ucsc.edu

Awardees must submit a one-page report no more than 30 days after spending the funds and are expected to acknowledge the Huerta Center’s support in any publications related to the sponsored research. We also encourage awardees to share their work with the Center’s community via either a research presentation or a contribution to our publication series. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are pending the availability of funds.
